Well, couldn’t get to my favourite hairdresser before a job interview so I rushed to the neighbourhood salon for a “trim”. I even showed her photos of what I liked. Ah hum… after repeatedly saying don’t cut my hair short, the hairdresser completely ignored me and cut all the back part VERY short before I could figure out what she was doing. Of course, the front had to match so VOILA, hair I’d taken months to grow out was now all gone. She explained to me that while she heard me say I didn’t want a short haircut… she thought it looked better on me. She showed me the cut with her happy little mirror saying “see, doesn’t this look much better”? ARGH, I politely paid and swore all the way home. I already know I look better with short hair, but I happen to like a change once in a while so the longer, medium-length was giving me more options — that’s why I’d spent months growing it out.

Has this ever happened to you? Okay, it’s not the end of the world, and it does grow back – but really it’s so frustrating not being listened to. Please go ahead and tell me your bad hair story… maybe it will help us all laugh it off a bit!

Monique

My husband just bought himself a “man” tv which basically covers 1/2 the wall in our living room… ack. Anyways, the first movie we saw was “The Mummy”. I’ve been reading a lot of articles on matriarchy and religion lately. Am I crazy or is there “sinister” hidden symbolism in today’s movies to teach us women how to behave? : )

The movie is about an egyptian paroah/king, his mistress and his main priest. Mistress is covered in paint so that if any man other than the king touches her, he will know. The main priest and this woman fall in love and of course, can’t stay away from each other. They are caught by the king himself and in order to get away, they kill him. Unfortunately the guards catch them and they are sentenced to horrific deaths. The priest is buried alive for 1000′s of years, never to be released on fear of playing havoc on the earth.

Say the King represents Patriarchal Society, the Mistress represents the Feminine and the Priest of course, represents Religion. Then the King (patriarchal society) has taken his mistress (the feminine) as an object to own, she is not free to choose and must live under his law. The Priest (religion) loves the mistress (feminine) and refuses to treat her as an object, rather he “worships” her. When the Patriarchy finds out the Religion is worshiping the Feminine, they are considered evil. The Religion and the Feminine must kill the main head of the Patriarchy to survive. They are caught and sentenced to HELL forever. The Patriarchy Priests kill the Feminine which can no longer be controlled and tortures the Feminine Worshipping Religious Male for 1,000′s of years.

1,000′s of years later, the contemporary Guy & Gal come along and accidently free the ” EVIL” Priest. Their first comment is literally “Wow, even after 1,000′s of years, he still loves the feminine… he must really be evil because he wants to bring her back to life.” They set out to kill Religion & Feminine and banish them back to hell. All things are set right. At the very end, the helpless contemporary Gal and the Guy leave the desert with her sitting happily in his lap, smiling and kissing him.

Why do our modern fairy tales still tell stories where a King that makes a woman his personal property is GOOD. The kings men who kill her for loving somebody else and torture her chosen partner is GOOD and the Mistress and the Priest are EVIL.

Sounds eerily similar to my Blog story of women being stoned to death in 2010 in Afghanastan for basically the same reasons.

Well this may sound like crazy, over the top ranting to some, I can’t help myself.

What do you think?

How Can Women Keep Women Gainfully Employed? Its EASY!
All we have to do is support each other in business, just like the “men” do. After a discussion with a friend of mine, we hit upon the idea of women helping other women get work – basically women’s networking through our blogs. You know how we are always hearing about opportunities, but how do we spread the word? What are the channels for keeping women gainfully employed?

It would be so easy to just send a post out that says “I know somebody looking for a marketing specialist,” give info on the job and pass it to somebody who needs the support and is willing to pay it forward by informing others when they hear of a job opening.

I think if everybody posted what their skills were on a “SKILLS” page of their blog, maybe we could help each other out. Yes, I know it is being done on LinkedIn and other formats, but this would just be one more way of getting a foot in the door for women running their own businesses.

For example, I am a Graphic Designer by trade. I work free-lance from home and have just started to get business. I’m pretty shy, but good at what I do. This makes it difficult to really hard-sell myself to potential clients even though I AM good at what I do. I’ve had months of no pay cheques coming in before finally starting to get jobs through word of mouth. It’s been a struggle.

It would have very helpful to get contacts through other blogging women OR to even be able to speak to others in the same situtation.

The internet is a wonderful tool for this and honestly, after receiving a few suggestive emails from some men who I applied for jobs with on Craigslist, I’d rather deal with women only — it feels a lot safer!

Any ideas how we could accomplish this as a group?

Thanks for listening!

Just finished watching the supposed “romantic movie” Made of Honour. Okay, its about a guy and a girl who have been friends ever since college. Of course she is in love with him but he likes to sleep around a lot so they just stay friends. THEN suddenly she meets the man of her dreams and says she is getting married. Uh oh, now her “friend” suddenly realizes he is in LOVE with her and must break up the wedding!

Hmmmm…. let me see, should she go with the guy who’s been tomcatting around for years and probably has about 100 communicable diseases OR should she marry the dream man who respects her and wants her to be his wife? Unfortunately, like Hillary Clinton, she ends up with the guy who likes to fool around.

WHY? Why should the women always take back the guy who cheats and lies and treats women badly? What kind of message is that to send to young girls. GOD, I personally chose a nice guy that respects me over a bum who kept seeing other women behind my back. I think it was a GREAT choice and I have a nice life.

If I’d married the cheatin guy, I pretty much can guess what my future would have been… hopefully without a husband or a communicable disease. I hate movies where the woman picks the bad guy. I really do!

Anybody out there agree with me?

Recently reading blogs and noticing the inconsistency between the blog topics and the advertising showing on the blogs. For instance, just read a blog article about rescuing animals that has a Tide commercial in the sidebar. Tide is a product of Proctor & Gamble which does horrific animal testing.

In my research for articles for my blog on women, feminism, women’s health etc. I am continually seeing feministic sites with ads for sexy filipino women (probably a human trafficking site) and getting rid of stomach flab using some kooky drug.

What’s worse, if my blog about women’s issues ever became popular, I would have these ads (which I HATE) on my site! Its crazy to write stories about women’s rights and have ads for sexy russian brides sitting right next to the article.

I’ve done some research and discovered that on FREE blogs for WordPress, once the blog has reached a certain level of loyal followers ads are placed on the sites (without bloggers approval) and the profits for these ads are split between Google and WordPress. The only way out of this is to pay a fee to WordPress to stop advertising from going on your blog… only they don’t exactly advertise this very loudly. I know I’ll being moving my blog to a URL site and pay my fees so I don’t have to think about it.

Google doesn’t have any screening process for ads. Basically they use cookies to view your internet use and then place ads based on your site visits. So… if you visit sites that have to do with women, you will be open to receiving ads about makeup, losing weight, dating services, cleaning products, shopping… etc. regardless of the “politics” of your site.

How come Google, who earns so much money can’t find a way to program in a filter system for abusive ads (sexually exploitive, anti-female, pornographic)? OR spend a bit more time developing programming that places more appropriately targetted ads to blogs. ANSWER: They don’t have to, they don’t need to and the ads are probably earning so much money, they don’t CARE.

Its weird. Blogs offer everybody the freedom of speech and yet in order to obtain this “freedom” of speech, many people’s rights are being abused.

Have you ever walked into a nail salon and been knocked over by the toxic smell? I’ve never been able to get past it and just keep walking by. Yes, my nails look a bit ratty at times, but I prefer to be healthy.

The fact is, nail polish contains a lot of harmful chemicals like toluene and formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate (which has been banned from ALL cosmetics by the European Union).

This is how these chemicals can create havoc in your body:

Toluene
Causes problems with human reproduction and fetus development. Could damage the nervous system causing fatigue, confusion, physical weakness, and poor motor control, as well as memory loss. May cause damage to the liver and skin rashes. High doses might affect the kidneys. It is linked to birth defects in lab tests.

Formaldehyde
A carcinogen (as in cancer causing). Inhaling it can cause watery eyes, migraines, sore/burning throat, and difficulty breathing.

Dibutyl Phthalate
Directly affect hormones. Can cause early puberty in girls and low sperm counts in men. May cause uterine problems in women, testicular cancer in men and an increase in the likelihood of infertility in both men and women. Can make you feel sick to your stomach, watering eyes, migraines, dizzy spells, kidney and liver damage. It might even be responsible for harm to the fetus of pregnant women.

Now you may only get your nails done once a month and think, no big deal, but think about the technicians who breathe this stuff in every day.

I use a buffing file instead. Soak my fingers and simply push my cuticles back. No my hands aren’t especially sexy, but I feel safe knowing I’m staying away from harmful chemicals and avoiding another cosmetic product that uses animal testing as well.

Solutions? All comments welcome.

Recently, I checked out the truthfulness of my previous article on women being stoned to death at the site: Snopes.com

Sadly, although the story is completely true and the petition is a real petition being circulated by a well-meaning university student, the petition will not go anywhere. On the internet, it is called a “flood of an unauthorized chain mail”. As such, it’s been shut down. The individual who started this was not really prepared for the size of response from the article and petition and was overwhelmed with emails.

Unfortunately, this means women in Afghanistan are still being abused. Since the Taliban have been in charge (1996), women have to wear the burqua. They are being stoned to death if they are not completely covered up (yup, even covering up their eyes with mesh). A woman accidently let part of her arm show while driving her car and was stoned to death by a mob of men.

Women can’t work and are not allowed to go anywhere without a male relative. Educated women have been forced out of their jobs and into the home. Young girls (9, 10 & 11) are being given as wifes to old men. They can be killed or punished for the slightest provocation. Suicide for women has become a common option. Windows in homes are painted black so outsiders cannot see the women inside. They must wear completely silent shoes so they don’t make noise when they walk.

How did a few schitzo men manage to control a whole country like this. Reminds me of Hitler and the Jewish people. These men must be very frightened of women to feel the need to reign them in so tightly. The level of fear and craziness is unbelievable. Unfortunately, signing a petition will probably not do anything to change these policies. I don’t know what will. It makes me feel sick and helpless.

I have a friend who is extremely allergic to her environment. Paint, perfume, cleaning products, carpet, fertilizers… she can’t even find a place to live that is safe! There are many people out there who are suffering from Chemical Poisoning who can’t function in our world and are forced to hide from everything. People around the world are also experiencing MUCH greater instances of allergies and asthma than ever before.

I personally think we use too many chemicals for everything. We are TOO CLEAN. Everybody around me seems to be a germaphobe. Nobody will touch the doorknob without a shirtsleeve to protect them, they wash their hands until they crack and they wouldn’t think of sharing a plate of food with somebody. They spray their kids toys with cleaner and they use every kind of poison they can think of to clean their house and kill the bugs inside and out. Its crazy. They even spray their house with chemicals to make it fresher smelling… wouldn’t opening the window be a cheaper more healthy alternative?

Not only do children miss out on the chance to get “dirty & sick” to improve their immune systems – they are being assaulted regularly with harsh chemicals wherever they turn.

Women suffer from environmental illness at a much higher rate than men. Here are some ideas on why this MIGHT be so:

Women have more fat in their bodies, so are able to store more toxins that are fat-soluble.

Women tend to be the ones that clean the home using harsh chemicals and sprays.

Women use makeup on a daily basis that is full of harmful chemicals.

Women get their hair dyed and treated regularly, the harsh chemicals actually penetrate the scalp!

Women get their nails done regularly which is highly toxic and can mess
with hormones.

Women are more likely to live in poverty than men – being forced to live in environmentally unsafe housing conditions.

Higher stress levels due to #6 environmental factors could create a situation where the body is not able to handle the removal of toxins very easily.

More women than ever are smoking.
